Before they were born, I made the girls these blankets with their nursery fabrics. I imagined wrapping them up in the hospital to meet their brother. Of course their arrival was a bit different than we planned, and these blankets ended up in the NICU hanging over the girls' isolettes making them into a perfect little tent. We would lift them up and peer inside whispering hopes and promises to our tiny babies. The NICU is a scary place even for the parents of the healthiest babies, and our ten day tour was a crash course in patience and trust and luck. Every night when I tuck my big strong healthy girls in under these same blankets, I always flash back to those first days and feel so incredibly, amazingly, unbelievably blessed.

One of the hardest things about Art traveling (aside from the sheer labor of keeping these people alive) is splitting my attention between three kids who are each demanding 100 percent of it. So when Arthur and I found ourselves alone at the mall and I suggested that maybe we should grab some ice cream, I had to agree when he told me "Mom, this is the best idea EVER!"

Poobah drove home with us to help this tired Mama with the bath-book-bed rigamarole. We will be glad to have Daddy back tomorrow, but we're so thankful to have so many hands willing to help us wrangle these tiny banshees.

Grammy and Pap drove all the way across Pennsylvania to help with the daunting task of de-Christmasing 3102 Green Street. We cut the tree down to get it out (putting a hole in the ceiling that subsequently needed repair), vacuumed, scrubbed carpets and couches, wrapped and packed and wiped down furniture and touched up paint and then UNPACKED all our regular decor, washed and REDECORATED. Grammy even braved the frigid cold to wash our windows!!! Long day, but it feels good to have a fresh start in the new year!
